Put simply, it's taking an order, and placing that order with a distributor who then ships the order for you.

You don't maintain a warehouse, don't need to ship items, don't have to deal with many of the customer complaints and concerns. That's what the distributor does FOR you. All you have to worry about is taking the initial order, getting it to the distributor, and getting the tracking for the shipment back to your customer.
